Paksi will make it tough

Panathinaikos are 1.6 to beat Paksi FC in this Thursday's first leg in Hungary and we're supporting the visitors at the same price in our assessment. They certainly have a better quality throughout the squad and they're in better form, but Paksi have been very solid at home in 2026, winning three and drawing one of their four games across all competitions.
György Bognár's side have been tough to crack in those games, conceding just four times in total, and they look set to make it a difficult night for the Greeks. There is certainly an argument for the draw at 3.85, but we still feel Panathinaikos are the more likely victors and we think the away win with under 3.5 goals should be a safer bet.
Panathinaikos have the edge
Although the odds favor the Greek side, there is a case to be made for Paksi to keep this matchup tight and close in this preview. The Hungarians have been in solid form and their all-competitions record reads five wins, two draws and three defeats in their last 10 matches.
Paksi lost 2-1 to Dundee FC in a friendly recently, and have three wins and two defeats in their last five matches. One of the wins was a 1-3 victory at Diosgyor VTK.
Panathinaikos have a similarly mixed record from their recent games, winning two, drawing one and losing two of their previous five. A 3-0 home win over Grasshopper Club Zurich was followed by a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of SK Rapid Wien, so there is a lot of scope for improvement for Jacob Neestrup's men.
Goal difference could be on the low side
There should be a clear difference between these two teams in terms of quality, but the Hungarians are a narrow side and have a pragmatic manager who will set his team up in a compact, low-risk block.
Panathinaikos will enjoy more possession and they can be a high-tempo side when they get going, with some organised pressing and wide overloads causing teams all sorts of problems. But there will be times when this game will get stretched and we're expecting Paksi to be much better going forward on the counterattack.
Vicente Taborda looks a smart pick for an anytime goal, given he has scored three of Panathinaikos' nine in the past five games. Paksi will be very deep, so the Greeks will have to work for every chance and our betting tips are that this doesn't turn into a high-scoring game.
