- Chengdu Rongcheng FC have lost one, drawn two and won four of their seven Super League home games this season.
- Shenzhen Peng FC have won one, drawn one and lost five of their seven away Super League games in 2025, conceding 16 goals (2.29 per match).
- Shihao Wei is Chengdu’s top scorer with six goals in 13 Super League games, while Edu Garcia has three in 11 for Shenzhen Peng.
Chengdu can capitalize on Shenzhen’s shaky defense
The fixture between Chengdu Rongcheng FC and Shenzhen Peng FC has never been a traditional local derby, but the styles of the two clubs are as contrasting as they could possibly be right now. Rongcheng are a compact, defensive set-up that soak up pressure and try to hit teams on the counter-attack. Shenzhen have been far more patient in possession under the guidance of new coach Christian Lattanzio, who took over in October 2024.
Jung-Won Seo has been in charge of Rongcheng since December 2020 and his team are currently third in the 2025 Super League on 30 points from 14 games – while Shenzhen Peng FC are 13th on 14 points from the same number of matches. The form of both teams in recent months has not helped Shenzhen’s cause either, with Shenzhen claiming only one win and four defeats in their last five.
Rongcheng are in much better shape, claiming three wins, one draw and one defeat in their previous five Super League. They dispatched Shandong Luneng Taishan FC 3-1 away from home only four days ago, while Shenzhen’s only win during that period was a 3-1 home success over Shanghai Shenhua. They fell back to earth immediately with a 2-1 home defeat to Wuhan Three Towns.
Rongcheng can soak up Shenzhen’s pressure
Rongcheng’s defensive base and clinical counter-attack play is much further advanced than Shenzhen Peng FC's approach and should be too much for the visitors on Wednesday.
Shenzhen have never beaten Rongcheng in the league, losing both of the previous two meetings, which includes a 3-0 away win for the hosts 10 months ago.
The odds here look about right with Rongcheng 1.19 favorites, Shenzhen 14.7 outsiders and the draw at 7.11.
But given that Rongcheng have conceded just five goals in seven home Super League matches this term (0.71 per match on average), a wager on the hosts to win without conceding could be where the value is.
Romulo is in fine form for Rongcheng with four goals in his last five outings.
They should get enough chances against a Shenzhen side that have conceded 16 goals in their seven road games.
